The Import Process
Once your account is linked, you choose what to bring over and run the import.
Select your pages
You'll see a list of all the pages we found — both public pages and hidden ones (pages that are live but not shown in your navigation) — each with its title, address, image count, and layout. The image counts reflect the content that will actually come across, so a page that shows images will import them. Pick the pages you want:
- Start small if you'd like to check how one or two pages come across first.
- Select everything to bring your whole site over in one go.
You can always run the import again later to add more pages.
Importing a large site? Do it in batches. If your connection drops part-way through a big import and you re-run it, pages that already came across can be imported again — leaving you with duplicates (for example
aboutandabout-1). Bringing pages over a batch at a time keeps any interruption small and easy to redo. If you do end up with duplicates, just delete the extra copies from your pages list afterwards.
Run the import
Start the import and your pages come across one at a time, with live progress as each page's images and text are transferred and its layout is converted. Larger sites take longer — the images are downloaded and re-hosted on the new platform, so leave the tab open until it finishes.
When it's done, you'll see a summary of how many pages and images were imported, and a link straight into your new site to start editing.
What happens to your content
- Each legacy page becomes a page here, with its images, text, captions, links, and videos.
- Each page's layout is mapped to the closest SalonEngine layout.
- Your imported site starts unpublished, so you can review everything before it goes live.
- The first page you import becomes your site's home page — unless you import the page you'd set as home on Salon.io, in which case that one becomes home. You can change which page is home later from your pages list. (If you're importing into a site that already has a home page, your existing home is kept.)
